I’m not even talking about the intense usage of the existing equipment, which causes constant need for repairs and replacement of system components.

Ventriculostomy is one of the most common surgeries (right after shunt placement surgery) for treating hydrocephalus endoscopically.

The procedure involves entering a thin endoscopic catheter through the brain tissue into the third ventricle. All the information about the anatomy of the brain and its features goes straight to the operating surgeon’s monitor. With the help of the catheter a hole is made in the floor of the third ventricle, which allow for a new point of outflow for the spinal fluid.
