Anya was born at the 31st week of pregnancy, weighing 1,280 grams. One of the twins. She had to stay at the ICU in Sumy for over a month.
When the girl’s condition stabilized and she started breathing on her own, she was transferred to a regular room. After the checkup Anya was diagnosed with Hypertension-hydrocephalic syndrome, congenital hydrocephalus and was referred to the Institute of Neurosurgery in Kiev. The second girl went home with their mother.
Anya’s doctor contacted us for help. In the couple of months fight for their daughter’s life, parents and relatives have spent everything they possibly could. For the surgery we need to buy:
1) Shunting system — 2,500 UAH ($110),
2) Medication and disposables for the surgery and treatment.
Altogether we estimate about 6,500 UAH ($280).

21/7/2015 Update
We have great news! Anya has been discharged and is already on her way home! Anya’s mother war so grateful that she wrote us a poem. I will not do it justice by trying to translate it, however… So I will post it in Russian, in case someone reads it

Спасибо что дух боевой подняли,
Бороться с болезнью мы будем и дальше.
Вы много забот стали брать на себя,
И мы вам признательны крайне за это,
И стала счастливее наша семья,
Вы дали нам лучик надежды и света.
Спасибо Наташе, она словно солнце,
Светила своей добротою души,
Мы верим, однажды Анюта проснется,
И будет здоровой как все малыши.

17/07/15 Update
It is obvious, even to the untrained eye, that Anya is feeling much better. She started interacting with the world, her eyes are different!

09/07/15 Update
After getting good test results was taken into shunt placement surgery yesterday. Medtronic shunting system, costing 20,460 UAH ($900). It didn’t go as we planned, the supplier didn’t have the Codman shunting system for the required level of pressure, so he brought one for the higher pressure levels, which according to the doctors wouldn’t work, so we got a refund and had to purchase the more expensive system for the right pressure, as Anya could not wait for the surgery any longer.

02/07/15 Update
Anya needs help withthe purchase of the shunting system. DOctors are ready to take her into surgery. The parents, however, have no funds to purchase the shunt. Anya needs 15,000 UAH ($665) for the surgery.

20/06/15 Update
Continuing with the treatment, spinal fluid test results are good and we will soon need supplies and a shunting system for the surgery, and medication for the postop treatment..

08/06/15 Update
We bought Anya formula and a couple of volunteers brought more on Saturday.

04.06.15 Update
Anya has surgery today. A ventricular catheter for the treatment of inflammation was installed. We spent 2,370 UAH ($105) for the surgery. She woke up from the anesthesia well and has been transferred back to her room at 8 pm.
Anya needs help with diapers, «Malyutka» formula, wet wipes, medication. She has more surgeries to come. The family is in a bad place financially. The grandmother, while staying at the Institute with Anya ate bread only and was too embarrassed to ask for help, even though she was Natalia there every day. We are thinking of starting ‘meal support’ for her.

14/05/15 Update
Anya, one of the twins, came back to the Institute of Neurosurgery with her mother, 10 day ago, because of the shunt malfunction :((
She is getting treatment to reduce the protein levels in the spinal fluid and will be operated on later on.

03/05/15 Update
Discharged and went home with her grandmother, might need another surgery. Anya’s grandmother is very grateful to the Foundation and to everyone who helped with Anya’s tretment.

06/03/15 Update
Anya had a ventriculosubgaleal shunt placement surgery today. She might need another one. It will depend on the progress in a couple of weeks.
