Zhenya the Froggie, 6 y.o., Cerebral Palsy, Boyarka Orphanage

We’ve been asked by the orphanage employees to take under our care one more boy, five year old Zhenya. He was abandoned as a baby and doesn’t have anyone visiting or caring about him.

Zhenya has Cerebral Palsy and is in the same group as most of our kids, so he also be taking part in our rehabilitation program with Yulia and Ida Igra when she comes from Israel for a course with our kids.

UPD 18 SEPT 2016

Zhenya came back from the 2-week rehabilitation course at the Kozyavkina Clinic early today! He spent a lot of time outside, got healthier, learned new things!
A little bit about his success :)
The Clinic has their own point system to assess the kids’ progress. All the specialists see the kids before they start the course and then after they are done. In the two weeks Zhenya has improved his results by 8 points!!! This is truly amazing, as on average a good result is considered to be anything from 2 to 6 points! He started walking better, his vestibular apparatus improved, as well as his mental development. Zhenya is very smart, he understands everything he’s being told. He does what the therapists ask of him. He’s also very curious, he wants to know and see everything. The doctors say that if he will get regular and correct treatment, he’d be able to walk, eat and take care of himself on his own. But it would only be possible if someone was fully invested in him and his progress… It’s impossible to achieve his kind of goal at an orphanage. Zhenya desperately needs a family…

Huge thanks to the volunteers who went on the trip, to the orphanage’s nannies, to every single person who donated money and made this trip possible!

Thank you all so-so much!

UPD 13 JULY 2016

Came to see our Zhenya the Frogie today. He has recently mastered the art of climbing into your hands in about 5 to 7 seconds and then switching between me and Sasha to have some variety in life :)) He’s doing well, showing constant progress! He needs a family so badly…

UPD 9 JUNE 2016

We saw Zhenya outside today, walking around with his walkers. He is even getting up the stairs on his own, holding the railing. It is hard to believe that just a couple of months ago he was jumping around like a little frog…

UPD 28 MAY 2016

Two days ago was his birthday, which means that he will soon be transferred to an adult institution, unless he gets adopted. He is available for international adoption, and it is his best chance at a normal like.

In the meantime, while his family finds Zhenya, we will try to do anything we can to postpone the transfer. One of the ways to do it is to send Zhenya to a rehabilitation course in the Kozyavkina Clinic (the one we sent Roma and Andriy to), but we need to raise about 30,000 UAH ($1,200) for that.
Please consider making a donation! Zhenya will not be able to continue his progress at the institution and we will not be able to help him there, as those places never let outsiders in… So, please, help us help Zhenya!

UPD 25 MAY 2016

Tomorrow is Zhenya‘s Birthday!! He’s turning 6! 6 years, which means that he will be transferred to the «older» orphanage :((( The medical committee already came to evaluate him. Zhenya didn’t do anything of what was asked of him. But we know that he understands a lot… Zhenya just started showing progress! He started standing up, walking with walkers, tries standing up without support — and all of this in just a few months. His developing so well! He only got the surgery on his mouth this fall. He could probably start talking soon… We are all very scared and sad and we’re thinking how to postpone this moment… Zhenya really needs a family…
